Saint Laurent
When Saint Laurent was founded in 1962 by designer Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé, they brought a fresh, youthful perspective to the French fashion industry. Saint Laurent introduced a luxurious way to look at ready-to-wear and is known for his originally controversial, now iconic pieces of 20th century fashion, including the Mondrian shift dress and “le smoking” jacket, and is credited with popularizing thigh-high boots, tight pants and shoulder pads. Since the late 1990s, a number of impressive names have occupied the creative director position at this storied house. In 1997, Bergé appointed Hedi Slimane as collections and art director and relaunched Rive Gauche Homme. Tom Ford famously designed womenswear from 1999 to 2004. Stefano Pilati offered a cool, directional take on YSL glamour from 2004 to 2012, and launched the hugely popular Tribute heel and Mombasa bag. In 2012 Hedi Slimane returned with his signature rock n’ roll aesthetic of motorcycle and Teddy jackets, skinny denim and graphic tees. Now helmed by Anthony Vaccarello, the current iteration of Saint Laurent is an impeccably chic brand known for sleek, sharp tailoring, slinky dresses, signature Opyum heels, and handbags adorned with the classic YSL logo.
