Lanvin
As the oldest fashion house still in operation, Lanvin began in 1889 as a bespoke hat atelier run by Parisian designer Jeanne Lanvin. Lanvin joined the Syndicat de la Couture in 1909, which marked her formal status as a couturière. The brand places a great deal of importance on its long history and adapts its classic tropes for a modern audience. Lanvin became a must-have fashion brand once again at the turn of the millennium, with Alber Elbaz's artistic direction from 2001 to 2015. Elbaz brought an undone elegance to his years at Lanvin, in flowing silk dresses and extravagant but somehow unfussy ruffles. The current creative director, Bruno Sialelli, has updated the heritage of the house by introducing androgyny, bold patterns, and influences from the 1970s. Expect graphic tees, layering, sneakers and ballerina flats, and playful renditions of classic pieces.
