Hermès

Since 1837, when French harness maker Thierry Hermès opened his workshop in Paris, Hermès has focused on producing goods for their customer’s lifestyles using the finest quality artisanal workmanship. Throughout the decades, the Hermès family launched products that spoke to their clientele, including the printed silk scarf, Chaîne d’ancre jewellery, ready-to-wear, and the Kelly and Birkin bags. In 1997 Hermès hired avant-garde Belgian designer Martin Margiela as creative director. Surprising everyone, the collections were described as timeless – a quiet evolution of ideas rather than a revolution. In 2003, Margiela left Hermès, and Jean Paul Gaultier was hired, debuting his first ready-to-wear collection for fall/winter 2004. And from 2010 to 2014, Christophe Lemaire served as creative director, developing the idea of a chic and slowly evolving wardrobe. Currently, Véronique Nichanian designs menswear, a post she has held since 1988, and Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski succeeded Lemaire in designing womenswear. With beliefs based on elegant handiwork and innovation, the brand continues to look to its long history for inspiration to create a creative and responsible future.
