Issey Miyake

At the core of Japanese designer Issey Miyake’s namesake brand is the concept of “A Piece of Cloth.” Since the label’s foundation in 1971, the ambition to create a comfortable relationship between clothing and the body that wears clothing has influenced every aspect of Miyake’s designs. Innovation in textiles, experimentation with shapes and silhouettes, and the capacity to see the formation of clothing from the thread to the garment are the keys to Miyake’s creative vision. Through designer Satoshi Kondo’s current leadership, traditional Japanese techniques flow together with new modes of textile engineering and Miyake’s signature pleats, colour blocking, and ingenuity.
