Gucci

Originally founded as a leather goods retailer in Florence, Italy, since 1921 Gucci has grown to become one of the most famous luxury brands in the world. Early innovations involved the use of alternative materials like bamboo and cotton canvas imprinted with the interlocking double GG monogram, which eventually became house signatures. Glamorous, elegant, and aristocratic women embraced Gucci’s goods, and important pieces from the brand’s history, like the flora scarf and the Jackie bag, continue to be relevant today. Tom Ford was named creative director of Gucci in 1994 and set in motion the brand’s most iconic and memorable era. That era ended in 2003, but his influence is seen today, and many of his designs are now collector’s items. In 2015 Alessandro Michele became creative director, redefining Gucci for a new generation with a quirky, maximalist take on luxury that took cues from vintage fashion and diverse perspectives on gender. Sabato Di Sarno was named creative director in 2023 and showed his first collection the same year.
