The key elements of Celine Vipiana’s fashion house are French chic and the use of high quality materials. Originally founded in 1945 as a made-to-measure children’s shoe service, the success of the business led her to produce footwear for women and eventually accessories and easily fashionable and comfortable clothing. From 1997 to 2004, Michael Kors brought his clean sportswear design sensibility to the house. During a ten year period from 2008 to 2018 creative director Phoebe Philo defined the brand with beautifully tailored apparel and the upkeep of Celine’s promise of fine materials, creating a uniform for working people. With the appointment of the house’s current creative director Hedi Slimane, this promise has been updated to match the shifting aesthetics of sportswear, marrying a new idea of French chic with the brand’s heritage.
