Alaïa
The house of Alaïa was established in the late 1970s by Tunisian designer Azzedine Alaïa and his partner, painter Christoph von Weyhe. Moving from his hometown of Tunis to Paris, Alaïa’s designs are deeply inspired by French film and couture craftsmanship, and have always celebrated the female form. He worked at Dior under Yves Saint Laurent and for Guy Laroche before opening his own atelier, dressing private clients and taking commissions from French society women. Alaïa is known for embracing a great diversity of fabrics and styles, from tailored leather, to studs and laces, to compact knits and stretch fabrics inspired by sportswear, leading to the creation of the body-con silhouette. Pieter Mulier was named creative director of the maison in 2021.
