Chalet Artistic Glass, Canada — 1962 to 1975
Founded by three master glass artisans from Venice; Angelo Tedesco, Luigi Tedesco and Sergio Pagnin. The Chalet Glass factory was located in Cornwall, Ontario (a few sources mention the beginnings in Montreal in 1958 as Les Industries de Verre et Miroirs, renaming to Murano Glass in 1960, and then Chalet Artistic Glass in 1962). Known for its vivid jewel tones and organic flowing shapes and mainly worked by hand in the style known as “stretch glass”, Chalet Glass originally produced traditional Venetian glassware. The switch was aimed at the simpler tastes of Canadians, making sales soar. Products include bowls, vases, baskets, candleholders, centrepieces etc. Many households in the 60’s owned at least one Chalet Glass piece. “Chalet Canada” is usually sandblasted onto the bottom or pieces are marked by a sticker. Sold to Rossi Artistic Glass in 1981.
